The Sheets Resume Story

"Because nobody should have a sheety resume."

This terrible quote above is by Colin McIntosh (...me). I'm an ex-recruiter for the Fortune 100 , and author of the most popular Reddit resume resume template/advice of all time, written over coffee on a cold Saturday morning in 2018. My free-to-use resume template has since been downloaded millions of times, and over the years I've answered tens of thousands of questions, comments, PMs, and emails about resumes and job hunting. All for free, all for fun!

Why I Continue to Help People Build Resumes

There is literally no better feeling than helping someone find a new job – it creates income for families, moves people forward with their career goals, launches someone on a new path… and can even give someone's children better access to healthcare (our employer-provided healthcare system sucks so hard, man). The ripple effects can be generational.

Through comments, chats, and PMs, I've answered thousands of questions 1:1 about resumes, job searches, and career advice. To this day – almost a decade later! – I get dozens of messages every day asking for personalized resume advice. While I always try to answer as many questions as I can on the fly, far too many requests for help go unread and unanswered due to my own time constraints.

For years, I simply didn't have the spare time to devote to a professional resume review service. Now nearly a decade later (hello from the future! It's awful here), I'm able to dedicate time to my other passions. So via this website, I set out to create new ways to help job seekers further!

The Beginning: 1-on-1 Resume Reviews

Initially, it was an easy decision to partner with my former recruiting colleague and mentor Nate who taught me everything I know (and is now a software engineer himself!). We've both spent way too much time looking at resumes, usually in the same room. Over the past 10 years, we've done so as our own careers have evolved from professional headhunters, to hiring managers, to entrepreneurs and CEOs.

Fun fact: Nate hired Colin at his first two jobs!

In ouro 20s, we always enjoyed helping friends, family, and random internet strangers build successful resumes. In our 30s, we finally found time to offer our resume services to the greater public, and set up SheetsResume.com to do so. In our 40s, we will link up with John Connor's forces and fight back against the machines.

On nights and weekends over the past few years, we found the time to help hundreds of people 1:1 with affordable resume refreshes and career coaching, which was an absolute joy... but we still just didn't have the time or capacity to help all the people who asked for our assistance. Beyond that, we eventually found ourselves charging $400 for a personal resume review - still cheap vs many resume coaches who charge upwards of $1,000, but out of reach for many (especially those in between jobs). We desperately wanted to do even more for our clients and help way more people, but our calendars just wouldn't allow it. Unfortunately, we realized: we're only human.

Solution: our AI Resume Builder

So, to scale our reach further, we've created an AI Resume Builder that can help unlimited people, in any language, 24/7, for a fraction of the cost - give it a shot, and whether you love it or hate it, please let us know what you think! (It's getting rave reviews.)

Our AI Resume Builder is trained on our prior years of recruiting experience and knowledge, and we've paired it with our AI Cover Letter Generator, AI Interview Practice, and AI Job Search to help job seekers as much as non-humanly possible.

Because this is a passion project and we're not financially able to do all this for free, our AI tools do have a membership cost associated with them (only chargedafter you use our tools and judge yourself to be 100% satisfied), but we give away free temporary memberships to anyone who can't afford one (just email us!). We also have a basic free resume builder that you're able to use as well!

In case Reddit ever shuts down or my post goes kaput, I also wanted to create this site to serve as a permanent respository of resume guidance and answers to frequently asked questions that we've seen over the years. So feel free to peruse our best resume advice and job search FAQs, read more of our delightfully unhinged content on the blog, and don't forget to download my always-free, ready-to-go resume template that's now been battle-tested by millions.

Good luck!

Happy resume building and job hunting! I know it can be a pain, but be sure to at least use this time to sleep in, work out, hit a lawyer, and divorce a gym.
