Your Claude or ChatGPT plan is separate from Sheets Resume. The setup steps below say which of their plans support connectors.
Setup
Connect Claude
Works on every Claude plan, including Free. Free Claude accounts can add one custom connector, so if you already have one, remove it first. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner adds the connector under Organization settings, Connectors (Add, then Custom, then Web), and then each person connects their own account from Customize, Connectors.
Set it up on the web or in the desktop app. Once it's connected, it also works in the Claude mobile apps.
- 1In Claude (on the web at claude.ai or in the desktop app), open Customize, then Connectors. Older versions of Claude call this Settings then Connectors.
- 2Click the + button and choose Add custom connector.
- 3Name it Sheets Resume and paste the connector URL below. Leave Advanced settings empty, then click Add.

- 5In any chat, click the + button in the lower left, open Connectors and make sure Sheets Resume is switched on. Then ask away.
Setup
Connect ChatGPT
ChatGPT adds custom connectors through developer mode, which needs a paid ChatGPT plan (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu) and works on chatgpt.com in a web browser, not in the mobile apps. On Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces, an admin may need to allow developer mode first.
Heads up: OpenAI says full support for actions that save or change things is rolling out to Business, Enterprise and Edu first. On personal Plus and Pro accounts, ChatGPT may be limited to reading, so it can read your resumes and write a tailored version in the chat, but may not be able to save it back to Sheets Resume yet. If you want everything today, Claude is the easier route.
- 1On chatgpt.com, open Settings, then Security and login, and turn on Developer mode. On some accounts the switch is under Settings, Apps, Advanced settings.
- 2Go to Plugins (older versions call it Apps) and click the + button to create a new app.
- 3Name it Sheets Resume, add a short description like “My resumes”, and paste the connector URL below. If it asks how to sign in, choose OAuth.

- 5Start a new chat, open the + menu, choose Developer mode and pick Sheets Resume. ChatGPT asks you to confirm before it saves or changes anything.
OpenAI has moved these menus around a lot this year. If a name above doesn't match what you see, look for Developer mode in Settings, then add the connector wherever ChatGPT lists your apps or plugins.

Questions, answered.
What can the AI see in my account?
Only your resumes: their titles, their content and their saved versions, plus the email on your account and whether your plan includes exports. It can't see your password, billing details, cover letters or anything else, and it can't delete resumes.
Is my data private?
You sign in on sheetsresume.com, so your password is never shared with Claude or ChatGPT. When your assistant reads a resume, that resume goes to the AI company you connected (Anthropic for Claude, OpenAI for ChatGPT) and is handled under their privacy terms and your settings there. On our side nothing changes: your resumes stay in your account under our Privacy Policy. We keep a simple log of the actions your assistant takes, like saving a copy, so we can fix problems.

Connecting is free, and so are reading, tailoring, saving copies and editing. Exporting files needs a paid Sheets Resume plan, same as in the builder. The AI writing happens in your own assistant, so it runs on your Claude or ChatGPT plan, not ours.

Free accounts can hold up to 3 resumes, and tailored copies count toward that. Delete a resume you no longer need in the builder, or upgrade for unlimited resumes.
Will it change my original resume?
Not when tailoring. Tailored versions are always saved as new copies. If you ask it to edit a resume directly, it saves the previous version first, so you can ask it to undo, or bring back any saved version. We keep your original plus the 9 most recent versions.
How do I disconnect it?
Open Connected apps in your Sheets Resume account, find Claude or ChatGPT and choose Disconnect. It loses access right away, and your resumes stay put. You can also remove the connector inside your assistant: in Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, pick Sheets Resume and choose Disconnect or Remove. In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps (or Plugins), pick Sheets Resume and choose Disconnect. Access also ends on its own if the connection goes unused for 90 days.

Your assistant gives you a download link for the file. The link works for 24 hours, and you can always export again.
Does it work with other AI assistants?
Right now it works with Claude and ChatGPT. It's built on MCP (Model Context Protocol), an open standard, so let us know if there's another assistant you'd like to use.
