What if my older experience is more relevant to the job I'm applying for than my most recent experience?
Simple answer! If you have an older job that's more relevant to what you're applying for vs your most recent experience, you can do one of three things:
- Lead with your Certifications and Skills section (delete Interests if you lead with this section) to show your relevant skills right up front.
- Highlight your older relevant work experience by leading with a new section called "RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE" and bucket your irrelevant experience into a section called "OTHER WORK EXPERIENCE" below it.
- Use our resume template as usual (with the same reverse chronological work experience flow), but build out the bullet points deeply for your older more relevant position, and keep the bullet points to a minimum (maybe 1-2 max) for your recent but irrelevant experience.
