The Jobs Report, by SheetsResume.com - Newsletter 01

July 19, 2025

This will be the first of hopefully many weekly newsletters from SheetsResume.com. We’ll call it… the SheetsResume.com Newsletter™! Ok, there’s gotta be a catchier name than that… ideas?

Anyway, we’ll bring you the following 4 things every week that we feel you’ll enjoy:

  • 1 under-the-radar job story
  • 1 new job search tip or tool
  • 1 success story
  • 1 funny thing

We also send this out as an email every week, so just create an account within our resume builder if you'd like to get our newsletter straight to your inbox.

1. Breaking News: EPA Cuts Staff By 25%

Joining the ranks of the over 200,000 federal workers who have been fired or bought out, the EPA just announced it’s laying off 25% of its workforce. This means the EPA will go from 16,155 to 12,448 employees. My own political and environmental views aside, and ignoring my own concerns about the current EPA removing all mentions of climate change from its official documents, this move will save the US government $748.8M… put another way, the combined salaries of these 4,000 dedicated public servants (whose families just lost their income and healthcare) are enough to finance the federal government for… drumroll please… 65 minutes and 42 seconds! We did it!! Balanced budget here we come!

2. Weekly Job Hunt Tip: the Sheets Cover Letter Generator is now 100% free

No strings attached, use to your heart's content. You can modify tone and length, upload your resume so our AI can incorporate your experience into the output, and base your cover letters off a job description URL or posting. The average applicant now spends 5 months and applies to over 200 jobs before receiving their first offer. If you spend 15 minutes per cover letter, that’s 50 hours of your life spent on writing pointless love letters to companies… that nobody even reads. Save your time and sanity, use the Sheets AI cover letter writer, and thank us later. (I wrote more about our cover letter maker and company ethos on Medium, where I’ll begin to write a bit more regularly too.)

3. Success Story: Unemployed for Months, Until They Switched to the Sheets Resume

As we do for everyone who asks, we gave Vlad a free SheetsResume.com membership about a month ago. Cut to 5 weeks later, and he just started his new job this month! Congrats, Vlad!!

4. Funny Thing: “Every week, there’s a new main character on twitter; the goal is to never be it.”

Don’t let your old 2-page resume see how beautiful your new beau is.

Thanks for reading! I enjoyed writing this with zero help from AI (actually though).

Cheers,
