What a typical job search actually costs
Most job searches take about three months, so here is the real total for one search, and for two searches a few years apart. Totals exclude tax and promotions unless noted.
| Sheets Resume Builder | Resume.io | |
|---|---|---|
| Need one resume this week | $9 (24-hour pass) or $19 (1-week pass), never renews | $2.95 (7-day trial; auto-renews at $29.95 unless cancelled) |

Where Resume.io beats Sheets Resume Builder
We would rather you trust this page than click a button on it, so here is where Resume.io is genuinely the better choice.
- Speed and polish. One of the fastest ways to a clean, good-looking resume.
- Templates and photo CVs. 30+ designs, including styles common in European markets that expect a photo.
- Cheapest single search. $49.95 for a quarter beats our $99 Lifetime.
- A $2.95 one-off, if you download and cancel inside 7 days (our $9 24-hour pass costs more but never renews).
Where Sheets Resume Builder beats Resume.io
- Built and run by actual recruiters. Co-founder Colin McIntosh screened tens of thousands of resumes as a Fortune 100 executive recruiter, and co-founder Nate Schier came up in recruiting too. The format and the AI encode what makes a real screener say yes, which is something no template gallery or growth team can copy.
- Finished in seconds if you have a starting point. Paste in an existing resume (even a long, messy one) or your LinkedIn URL, and the AI rewrites and reformats it into a recruiter-approved, one-page resume in seconds.
- No trial trap. $9 for a day, $19 for a week, $99 for life, all one-time. Prefer a subscription? $19/week or $39/month are there, optional. Nothing converts behind your back.
- Build by voice. Never written a resume, or hate typing? Just ramble about your background and goals; the AI gives it structure and writes and edits your resume live as you speak.
- Free cover letters. Unlimited AI cover letters with a free account, no credit card.
- Tailoring to each job. Paste a posting, choose how aggressive, approve changes line by line.
- Interview practice and AI job search included in the same membership.
- Google Docs export, plus PDF and Word.
- A free way out. Our Word template has been free since 2018 and always will be.

A recruiter's take on Resume.io
Resume.io builds a nice-looking resume quickly, and plenty of people are happy with it. Our concern is the model, not the software: a cheap trial that quietly becomes $29.95 every four weeks is the kind of thing that hurts most when you are between jobs.
On format, we would push back on headshots and multi-column layouts for US roles. Photos invite bias you cannot control, and columns break the left-to-right skim screeners rely on. If you are applying in a market where photos are expected, Resume.io handles that well. If not, a plain one-column resume will be read faster.
Who should choose which
Choose Resume.io if
- You want a polished design in 20 minutes
- You are applying in a market that expects a photo CV

- You will download and cancel inside 7 days
Choose Sheets if
- You do not want an auto-renewing trial
- You have an existing resume or LinkedIn and want a recruiter-approved version in seconds
- You have never written a resume, or would rather talk than type (build by voice)
- You want job-specific tailoring
- You want interview practice included
- You want Google Docs export
Sheets Resume Builder vs Resume.io: FAQ
How much does Resume.io cost?
Resume.io offers a 7-day trial for $2.95 that auto-renews at $29.95 every 4 weeks, or a quarterly plan at $49.95 every 3 months. The free plan downloads in TXT only. Checked October 20, 2026.
Is Resume.io free?
You can build one resume and one cover letter free, but free downloads are plain text (TXT). A formatted PDF or Word file needs a paid plan.
Is Sheets Resume Builder cheaper than Resume.io?
For one search, no: Resume.io's quarterly plan ($49.95) is cheaper. Over two searches they are about even ($99.90 vs $99). Sheets is cheaper than Resume.io's default trial path, which renews at $29.95 every 4 weeks, and its $9 and $19 passes never renew.
Should I put a photo on my resume?
For US roles, no. Photos invite unconscious bias and add nothing a screener needs. Some countries expect one; adjust for local norms.
Does Resume.io have interview practice?
Interview practice is not part of Resume.io's plans. Sheets includes unlimited typed mock interviews and 60 minutes a month of live voice interviews.
Which is better for an ATS?
Both produce text-based files. The bigger risk is the human screener, which is what Sheets is built around. See our take on ATS.
How we compared
We make Sheets Resume Builder, so we are biased, and you should know that. To keep this fair we pulled every price from the vendor's own pricing page on October 20, 2026 (noted above where a page loads prices dynamically and we confirmed with recent independent reviews), we listed where Resume.io beats us before listing where we beat Resume.io, and we only compared features each company publishes. Sheets Resume Builder was started in 2018 by former recruiters Colin McIntosh and Nate Schier after our free resume template became the most-shared resume advice on Reddit. Since then 8 million+ people have used the template, 630,000+ resumes have been built in the AI builder, users rate us 4.88 out of 5 on our public reviews page, and in 2026 Tech Times ranked us #1 and Forbes Advisor ranked us #4.
