Sheets Resume Builder vs Teal
Verdict: Choose Teal if you are applying to dozens of roles and want a free job tracker and Chrome extension to organize the hunt; choose Sheets Resume Builder, built and run by actual recruiters, if the resume itself is the bottleneck and you want a format screeners say yes to, built by voice, free unlimited cover letters, and unlimited AI plus interview practice for one $99 payment.
By Colin McIntosh, co-founder and former Fortune 100 executive recruiter · Updated
Teal is less a resume builder than a job-search command center: a job tracker, a Chrome extension that saves postings from any board, a networking CRM, email templates, and a resume builder that plugs into all of it. It has one of the most generous free plans in the category and over 4 million users. Sheets Resume Builder does one thing obsessively: turn your experience into the resume a recruiter says yes to.
These are different tools for different problems, so here is an honest look at which problem you actually have. Prices checked on October 20, 2026.

What a typical job search actually costs
Most job searches take about three months, so here is the real total for one search, and for two searches a few years apart. Totals exclude tax and promotions unless noted.
| Sheets Resume Builder | Teal | |
|---|---|---|
| Need one resume this week | $9 (24-hour pass) or $19 (1-week pass), never renews | $0 or $13 (Free plan, or 7 days of Teal+ (renews weekly)) |
| One 3-month search, cheapest route | $99 (Lifetime) | $79 (Teal+ 90-day plan) |
| One 3-month search, trial or monthly route | $117 ($39/month subscription x 3) | $87 (Teal+ monthly x 3) |
| Two separate 3-month searches | $99 (Lifetime covers both) | $158 (90-day plan twice) |
Teal's 90-day plan ($79) is cheaper than our $99 Lifetime for a single search, and Teal's free plan is genuinely usable if you only need light AI help. Sheets wins on the second search and on anything AI-heavy, since we do not meter AI with credits.

Where Teal beats Sheets Resume Builder
We would rather you trust this page than click a button on it, so here is where Teal is genuinely the better choice.
- Job tracking. Teal's tracker and Chrome extension are the best in this category. We do not offer a tracker at all.
- A real free plan. Unlimited resumes and job tracking for $0, with no card required.
- Volume applying. If you are sending 50+ applications, Teal's CRM, email templates and Match Score keep it organized.
- Cheaper for one search. $79 for 90 days of Teal+ beats our $99 Lifetime if you never search again.
- Design control. Teal+ Design Mode lets you customize layouts; we give you one format.
Where Sheets Resume Builder beats Teal
- Built and run by actual recruiters. Co-founder Colin McIntosh screened tens of thousands of resumes as a Fortune 100 executive recruiter, and co-founder Nate Schier came up in recruiting too. The format and the AI encode what makes a real screener say yes, which is something no template gallery or growth team can copy.
- Finished in seconds if you have a starting point. Paste in an existing resume (even a long, messy one) or your LinkedIn URL, and the AI rewrites and reformats it into a recruiter-approved, one-page resume in seconds.
- One payment, forever. $99 covers this search and the next one. No weekly or 30-day renewals.
- No AI credits. Unlimited AI writing and tailoring with any membership, and AI cover letters are free and unlimited even without one.
- Build by voice. Never written a resume, or hate typing? Just ramble about your background and goals; the AI gives it structure and writes and edits your resume live as you speak.
- Mock interviews. Scored practice interviews, plus live voice interviews you can interrupt and redo.
- AI job search by resume. Find roles matched to the resume you just built.
- Google Docs export, alongside PDF and Word.

A recruiter's take on Teal
Teal is excellent at the logistics of a job search. If your problem is "I have 40 tabs open and no idea who I followed up with," Teal is the answer and we would tell you to use it. You can even use both: build the resume here, track applications there.
Where we differ is philosophy. Teal's builder leans on match scores, keyword coverage and an AI summary generator. From the screener's side of the desk, summaries usually push your most impressive line down the page, and chasing keyword percentages produces resumes that read like keyword harvests. We would rather your first three lines be your employer, your title and a bullet with a number in it. Here is what the resumes that got interviews had in common.
Who should choose which
Choose Teal if
- You are applying to a high volume of roles and need a tracker
- You want a Chrome extension that saves jobs from any board
- You want a genuinely free plan
- You want match scores against each posting
Choose Sheets if
- Your resume is not getting callbacks and you want it fixed
- You have an existing resume or LinkedIn and want a recruiter-approved version in seconds
- You have never written a resume, or would rather talk than type (build by voice)
- You want unlimited AI without credits
- You want interview practice included
- You prefer one payment over a subscription
Sheets Resume Builder vs Teal: FAQ
Is Teal free?
Yes. Teal's Free Forever plan includes unlimited resumes, unlimited job tracking, 10 templates and a small number of AI credits (10 bullets, 2 summaries, 2 cover letters). Teal+ unlocks unlimited AI and templates.
How much does Teal+ cost?
As of October 20, 2026, Teal+ costs $13 every 7 days, $29 every 30 days, or $79 every 90 days, per Teal's pricing page. You can cancel anytime.
Is Sheets Resume Builder cheaper than Teal?
For one three-month search, Teal+'s $79 quarterly plan costs less than our $99 Lifetime. Over two searches, Sheets is cheaper ($99 total vs $158), because Lifetime never renews.
Does Sheets Resume Builder have a job tracker like Teal?
No. Sheets focuses on the resume, cover letters, interview practice and AI job search. If you want a tracker and Chrome extension, Teal is the better tool for that part, and the two work fine side by side.
Which gives better AI writing?
Both use AI to draft and tailor resume content. Teal meters AI with credits on the free plan; Sheets includes unlimited AI with any membership, lets you build by voice, and lets you choose how aggressively a resume is tailored to a job description. Sheets AI cover letters are free and unlimited with a free account.
Should my resume have a summary?
Usually not. A summary pushes your current employer, title and best bullet down the page. The exceptions are career changes and long gaps. Our FAQ explains why.
How we compared
We make Sheets Resume Builder, so we are biased, and you should know that. To keep this fair we pulled every price from the vendor's own pricing page on October 20, 2026 (noted above where a page loads prices dynamically and we confirmed with recent independent reviews), we listed where Teal beats us before listing where we beat Teal, and we only compared features each company publishes. Sheets Resume Builder was started in 2018 by former recruiters Colin McIntosh and Nate Schier after our free resume template became the most-shared resume advice on Reddit. Since then 8 million+ people have used the template, 630,000+ resumes have been built in the AI builder, users rate us 4.88 out of 5 on our public reviews page, and in 2026 Tech Times ranked us #1 and Forbes Advisor ranked us #4.
